This beautiful mural (8x24ft) is done by William Smith High School students for this art show & auction fundraising event on November 11th. They have done quite a job on capturing the essence of what this event will be all about.

This is just the beginning!

There will be over 70 more pieces that are created with the same inspiration: the stories of our refugee communities.

Where are you from? I’m from Mexico City, Mexico.
What do you like about your country? I like that everything is close. You can go everywhere. There is transportation anytime and you can go about an hour and see different kinds of weather and ecosystems- hot, warm, cold. And in the city you can visit many kinds of places, museums, downtown, zoos, and you don’t need a car, really.
What do you like about the U.S.? I like that there is order in the streets and roads. You have to follow the traffic rules and that way it’s easier to drive. And the weather in the winter. I like the snow.
What do you do in your free time? In my free time I like to read books, magazines and newspapers. And if I can, I like to exercise at home or in the gym.
What three words describe you? Respectful, persistent and creative.
What is most important to you? My children are the most important, but actually the most important thing is my family.
What do you like about English class? I like everything about English class. Our teacher, they way she teaches us, the lessons, the classmates. We learn English every day.
Describe a funny/interesting day you had in English class. An interesting and funny day was when we had a party. We enjoyed different kinds of food- Korean, Chinese, Mexican and Salvadorian food. And different students from different countries were there. I think it was a “culture day” at the end of the year.
What are your goals in English class? My goals in English class are too speak well so I can speak fluently, spend time listening, speaking and writing better.
What is one of the most memorable moments in your life? The most memorable moments in my life were when I could see a baby born. It was the most recent that I can remember, because I have three children, but it isn’t the same when you can see everything and how a baby is born. I was supporting my cousin-in-law and it was very interesting.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself? After I lost 40 pounds I felt very good and healthier. But that didn’t happen until I decided, “Don’t worry about your weight.” I just made healthy decisions.
