YLA™ at Hinkley High School

Youth Leadership Academy™ (YLA™) is an after school program at Hinkley High School that provides a diverse scope of activities to engage students in leadership development including life skills, critical thinking, creative expression, community service, career exploration, and college readiness.


Monday- STEM Program/Activities

Tuesday- Homework Help and Critical Thinking Activities

Wednesday- Leadership and Team Development

Thursday- Arts and Culture

Friday- Health and Wellness and Fun activities


Summer Program (Tuesday-Thursday):

–  Summer Retreat to YMCA camp at Estes Park

–  College Tours

o University of Colorado Boulder, Auraria Campus, Colorado State University, and many more!

–  Arts and Culture

o Arts from Ashes, Wonderbound, Youth on Record, Museums, etc.

–  Fun in the Sun

o Hikes around Colorado, cityWILD, Denver Adventures, and other outdoor activities


Target Population/Group: Immigrant and Refugee High School students, specifically Asian and Pacific Islander populations. Anyone is welcome to join the group if you have zeal and passion to learn and develop.


Areas that we need volunteer services:

– Mentors and tutors

– Facilitators for STEM, Art, College/Job Readiness, Personal Development Skills, and Health and Wellness Workshops
